The Ikarus myth is both tragic and heroic. Ikarus, son of Daedalus is the embodiment of youthful energy with its supercharged emotions, yearning and fearless sense of adventure. Imprisoned in the labyrinth, they found a way out, devising wings of wax to fly to freedom. Though his father warned him not to fly too close to the sun, Ikarus, in the elation of flight, ignored his father’s warning and plunged to his death. Ikarus Among the Stars both celebrates and mourns our fallen heroes.
It was written as a memorial to a young musician, a boy of brilliance. The orchestral texture is woven with recorded musical excerpts written by the boy whose short life inspired this composition.
